Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for a chance to read this book early and submit my review.
The Salt Line by Holly Goddard Jones is set to release September 5th 2017

I was really excited to get my hands on The Salt Line, if you haven’t guessed by now I love a good dystopian novel. And I have to give this one credit for being such an orignal end of world scenario. The Salt Line takes place sometime in the future after the world’s population has retreated to different zones, protected from the wild behind chemically burned lines. Everyone is frightened of ticks, which I get I live in a highly populated tick zone myself. I will spare you the details of why these ticks are so horrible. The story is about a group of rich individuals who pay to take a risky trip outside of the salt line to see nature and get a thrill. From there they run into a group of people who live outside the zone and drama takes place.  If I give you much more detail it runs the risk of spoilers. While I enjoyed the originality of this novel I really wish the story was told a little different. The world building and character development left a lot of room to be desired. The first part of the book was amazing, I really wished it was expanded upon and told on its own. The 2 & 3 part of the book were good but I felt rushed and could have also been expanded into another book or two. Lastly I see another one or at least a need for a sequel. I was left wanting to know more about this world she built and I hope I get to. With that all being said The Salt Line is a good read for when you want a little drama and adventure.

Golden Son by Pierce Brown

Golden_Son_(2015)3.5/5

I enjoy sci-fi I really do and I was able to appreciate this book for what it was. A sci-fi action story, but it is complicated. To give a short description of the story without giving anything important away will be difficult. The story which takes place sometime in the future after Red Rising, begins with Darrow our heroine finishing up at the academy and being ruined by his darn ego as always. Darrow isn’t the type of hero I route for, his whining and ego consistently had me upset with him. I can though forgive him for doing the right things in the end. After finishing at the academy I cannot even mention anything else without giving away some kind of plot twist or another. This book is full of plot twist it will keep you on your toes or completely confused. There was a few times while reading I just had to stop and try to work it out in my head. I would like to recommend this book to anyone who had read Red Rising and loved it as much as I did. Golden Son while pack full of story is still a good follow-up to it predecessor and still left me wanting to read the next book in the series.

Golden Son is book two in the Red Rising trilogy*.

*I mention it as a series because I believe while it was intended as a trilogy to begin with there is a fourth book coming out.

Mr Mercedes by Stephen King

Mrmercedes4/5

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King is not your average horror novel, by our wonderful master of horror, but a detective novel. Though the book starts off with a horrific event (I don’t want to spoil for those who don’t know it.) the story continues down the path of a retired detective who has the one case that just haunts him. Bill Hodges is drawn back in to the hunt for Mr. Mercedes after receiving a letter from the supposed psychopath. Through-out his investigation he meets an array of lively characters that add a wonderful angle to the story. While I enjoyed the book I did find myself constantly annoyed with Hodges. He continually refuses help and constantly just by-passes a huge clue. I can not say why this annoyed me, really it made the character all the more realistic. The other reason is I could have been frustrated was because we also got the story from the antagonist point of view, so I kind of knew what was going on. These chapters are something that could only be made real through the mind of Stephen King. So if you are a fan of Stephen King’s, a fan of detective novel, or a fan of both check this book out. I enjoyed it and instantly downloaded the next book in the series.

Mr. Mercedes is this first book in the Bill Hodges trilogy.

Mr. Mercedes is being made in to a tv series on the Audience Network.

I listened to Mr. Mercedes on audio book.

Discussion Questions RP1

This week I am re-reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. It was my pick for book club and I am attempting to get every one on my bandwagon! While I am reading I will be trying to come up with discussion question for the story. I am kind of excited to be doing this since I normally just use whatever is released by the publisher or questions I find online. If you have any tips or if you have read the book and have a question I can also ponder please let me know!

In other news to catch up with reviews for books I have read this summer.  This week I will continue with reviews for:
