I enjoy sci-fi I really do and I was able to appreciate this book for what it was. A sci-fi action story, but it is complicated. To give a short description of the story without giving anything important away will be difficult. The story which takes place sometime in the future after Red Rising, begins with Darrow our heroine finishing up at the academy and being ruined by his darn ego as always. Darrow isn’t the type of hero I route for, his whining and ego consistently had me upset with him. I can though forgive him for doing the right things in the end. After finishing at the academy I cannot even mention anything else without giving away some kind of plot twist or another. This book is full of plot twist it will keep you on your toes or completely confused. There was a few times while reading I just had to stop and try to work it out in my head. I would like to recommend this book to anyone who had read Red Rising and loved it as much as I did. Golden Son while pack full of story is still a good follow-up to it predecessor and still left me wanting to read the next book in the series.
Golden Son is book two in the Red Rising trilogy*.
*I mention it as a series because I believe while it was intended as a trilogy to begin with there is a fourth book coming out.
I started this blog a few days ago and I kind of feel like I am Mae just beginning to work for The Circle. For those of you who don’t have a blog and don’t know, and for those of you who do and can relate; there is an endless amount of promotion that goes on across multiple social media platforms. There is tweeting, and re-tweeting, likes and hearts, reading, commenting and following . It can be a bit overwhelming, but in the times we live, it is what must be done. When Mae first starts at The Circle, a giant technology company, she is super thrilled. Slowly though she is consumed with the everyday task and lack of privacy it takes to keep up with the ever-growing company. From an outside prospective I find The Circle to be almost a horror novel. It makes me want to run away to the woods and hide with no technology in sight. If you can’t take a hard look at yourself and the world as it relates to technology this book might not be for you. I did give this book a good rating though because I really did enjoy it. I enjoyed following Mae’s thought processes, meeting her family, and learning her new job. Eggers does a great job of helping you become engrossed in his dystopian future. I recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t think we could end up this way and to the people who are afraid we will. Have some fun and join Mae at The Circle.
“SECRETS ARE LIES SHARING IS CARING PRIVACY IS THEFT”

The Circle was adapted into a movie featuring Emma Watson
I love myself a good old fashion book. One I can hold in my hands and smell and feel. One where I get the satisfaction of turning the pages. The feeling of weight shifting from my right hand, to my left. My problem with them though is how I read. When I am fully engrossed in a book little beside my son or a fire will make me put the book down. I have been known to read while cooking, cleaning, eating, and yes even while I shower. The last one is particularly hard. When I discovered E-books I was a little swept away, man this thing is light and with the Nook (1st ed) I have I can still read outdoors. I could throw it in my purse and be on my way. I was no longer a purist so to speak about holding a real book. Lately I have discovered audiobooks, I know, I know they have been around forever. Again I was still coming down off my high horse and expanding my mind. Let me tell you audiobooks are great because now I can even read at the gym and while driving. My life is now a never-ending literary adventure so to speak. Now there is many ways to enjoying reading, I know not everyone is as obsessive as I am. I give no judgement to how people like to read. Any reading is good reading, and to those who don’t like e-books or audiobooks, good for you stick to it. We need to keep print alive! So how do you like to read? My husband for instants put on a sports game or music and sits down in his spot on the couch to crack open a book. My son enjoys them read to him, mostly when he is already supposed to be in bed. So take a break from reading and let me know! I promise you can go right back to it!
